It is vital that we become educated in what we use in our homes, especially if you have children.
If you have allergies, asthma, a suppressed immune system or other health issues you might be surprised at what could be causing them.

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day Everyone!

“Recognize that you are a product of nature and that your very existence depends upon other products of nature.”
~Dr. Shaklee

I love Nature. I love being outside and I love all that the outdoors has to offer. I have learned that when I am weary, stressed, or sad, I try going outside into nature. A walk in the woods or sitting on a park bench overlooking a lake or just playing with animals can be so healing for the mind and the soul.

Whether you are actively participating in Earth Day events, or just working in your own yard today, or even just getting out to a local park to enjoy some beautiful spring scenery, you might want to stop and take notice of the beauty that’s around you. It can be very healing and rejuvenating.

Everything we have, everything we make comes from Nature. Nature provides us with the necessities that we need to live and with those gifts comes a responsibility to protect this source of life not just for us, but for our children as well.

I am so happy to be working with a company like Shaklee that has, since the very beginning, been very conscious of the fact that what we do has an impact on where we live. We guarantee that our products always works, are always safe and are always green.

I hope you and your families have a wonderful day today and every day!

Celebrating Earth Day and Remembering Professor Wangari Maathai

What a beautiful story about the hummingbird as told by the first person to ever win the Nobel Peace Prize for the environment.

The story shows how one can make a difference and how we should all try and do something, no matter how small it may seem or how insignificant we may appear to the others who do nothing at all.

Professor Wangari Maathai was a woman who lived life with passion, determination, and inspiration.  So much so that she’s made a lasting impact on millions of people across the globe.

April 2012 Newsletter

Welcome to our Celebrating Earth Day April 2012 Newsletter!
Shaklee has always celebrated Earth Day everyday and we are always excited to share how much the Environment means to us.

Home should be the safest, healthiest place in the whole world. But, today’s insulated air-tight homes are filled with chemicals that have never been tested for human toxicity - in the air, the walls, carpets, and in the household cleaners, which can carry some pretty scary warning labels.

Below is some information on how cleaning products affect you, your children and your environment. See how these products affect you, what the EPA and what pediatricians have to say.

·         81,000 chemicals have been registered with the EPA in the past 30 years and fewer than 20% have been tested for toxicity.
·         90% of all poison exposures occur in the home.
·         90% of our time is spent indoors. EPA reports that air pollution is up to 5 times higher inside than outside.
·         EPA studies have shown that elevated concentration of household chemicals persist in the air. Long term exposure to chemicals inside our homes may be harmful to us and our families.
·         One out of every 13 children have asthma.
·         Common household cleaners give off fumes that can increase the risk of children developing asthma.
·         The average U.S. household generates more than 20 pounds of hazardous waste each year.

What’s in your cleaners?

Sodium Hydroxide
 – Inhalation is immediately irritating to the respiratory tract. Contact can cause severe damage to the eyes, skin, mouth and throat. Can cause liver and kidney damage.
May be found in:
·         Dishwashing liquids
·         Laundry products
·         Oven cleaners
·         Scouring cleansers
·         Tub & tile cleaners

Hydrochloric Acid
 – Can cause severe damage to the skin. Can be harmful to health if inhaled. Can be fatal if swallowed.
May be found in:
·         Odor eliminators
·         Toilet bowl cleaners

Butyl Cellosolve
 – Can cause irritation and tissue damage from inhalation. A person who spends 15 minutes cleaning scale off shower walls could inhale three times the acute exposure limit.
May be found in:
·         All purpose cleaners
·         Cleaning wipes
·         Degreasers
·         Floor polish
·         Rug shampoos
·         Toilet bowl cleaners
·         Tub & tile cleaners
·         Window cleaners

Get Clean Water®
Is your drinking water as safe as it could be?

Protect your family and save 10% on filter refills.

Your water may look clean. But the truth is chemicals - such as pesticides, heavy metals, and industrial pollutants - can actually turn up in the tap water your family drinks.
Lead is no exception. Lead from your pipes can leach into your water and cause serious health challenges over time, especially for young children.
And, let’s face it; bottled water is expensive and not good for the environment.
The good news is that cleaner, healthier water is just a pitcher away.
Learn more about safe drinking water by watching this short video: Get Clean Water
Get Clean Beats Leading Brands:
·         Tested and Gold Seal certified by the Water Quality Association to reduce up to 99% of lead, and meets tough NSF/ANSI standards for contaminant reduction.
·         Reduces over 50 contaminants, including mercury, cadmium, atrazine, and total trihalomethanes (disinfection by-products).
·         Filters twice as much water as Brita® and PUR®1—up to 80 gallons—for just pennies a gallon.

It’s Good for the Planet:

·         Each filter keeps 600 16.9 fl. oz. plastic bottles from going to the landfill.
·         Each carbon-block filter is made with sustainable coconut shells, which are more effective in contaminant reduction than the technology used by leading competitors.
·         Each carbon-block filter is produced using a zero-emission process.

Give your family the safest, cleanest drinking water possible for only pennies a day with the Get Clean Water Starter Pack #89099 or Year of Water #89113.

Already have a Pitcher? Don’t forget about the convenience and 10% savings you’ll get when you purchase the Get Clean Water Filter 3-pack #52116 versus purchasing 3 individual filters.

The Real Dirt on Clean Drinking Water

"We all know water is essential to good health, but some of our drinking water may not be as healthy as we think. Over the past 50 years, thousands of chemicals have been widely used to make our lives more convenient. Unfortunately, some of these chemicals can find their way into just about anything —including our drinking water....."
Read more here : The Real Dirt on Clean Drinking Water

The water you drink is one of the most critical nutrients for your overall health. A major component of virtually all of the body’s tissues, organs and fluids, water plays an important role in a host of crucial bodily functions.

That’s why health experts recommend drinking eight to ten 8 oz glasses of water every day to maintain optimum hydrations. Most people though drink less than five glasses per day. Why? Most would say that tap water tastes bad and bottled water is expensive.

We have all heard the new about how contaminated our tap water can be. Levels deemed safe by the government may not be as safe as we think. There are still dangerous contaminants in the water. Bottled water has been found to be just as bad if not worse than some tap water!

The best way to get purified water is to filter it at the tap. I love the Get Clean Water Pitcher that is convenient and affordable. This pitcher filter makes the water taste great. Good water really has no taste and at a fraction of the cost of bottled water, it helps you to drink more!

For a limited time only you can get it at a 15% savings! Check out Get Clean Water
